The CDC predicts the US life expectancy to drop for the 3rd straight year. This has not been seen since the 1916 flu pandemic, and obesity is to blame. Leading causes of death in 1900 were infectious diseases—pneumonia and flu, tuberculosis, and gastrointestinal infections. The miracle of antibiotics has drastically reduced infections as a cause of death. Tragically, our national inability to handle prosperity primarily in the form of the obesity epidemic is now resulting in a continuously shortening life expectancy according to CDC data.
