Sportsmedicine
What Is Sportsmedicine?
Sportsmedicine involves the prevention and treatment of injuries that occur through sports or other activities. Dr Prodromos completed a sportsmedicine fellowship at Harvard Medical School and is the former medical director of the Arena Football League. He will work with you to develop a plan to treat your problems. In most cases, athletic injuries can be successfully treated without surgery.
Prevention of Injuries
Prevention of injuries is one of the most important things you can do to take care of your body. Overworking a joint can lead to pain and, eventually, permanent damage.
When exercising, some simple steps can be done to minimize the risk of injury while still getting a good workout. See our exercising safely section for details.
Pain Medication
When you have injured yourself, it is easy to reach for a bottle of pain medication to make you feel better. However, pain pills can cause problems and in some cases can increase the risk of permanent damage to your joint. Read about the risks and benefits of using pain pills on our NSAID page.
